Stamford AFC - The Daniels

LATEST NEWS

Stamford 2-1 Ashton United

Stamford came away with a win on a blustery day at home to Ashton.

With the wind advantage Stamford stormed out of the blocks and after only 4 minutes Ryan Robbins burst clear rounded Paul Phillips who brought him down for a penalty which Robbins duly dispatched.

Ashton were reduced to 10 men on 40 minutes when Matty Kosylo was shown a second yellow.

Minutes later Stamford were reduced to 10 when Jordan Smith was shown a straight red card.

Ashton had a glorious chance to equalise just after halftime when from 5 yards out with an open goal Martin Pilkington managed to put the ball over the bar somehow.

Ryan Robbins put a free kick just wide of the post and Nabil Shariff hit the post when clear.

Ashton equalised on 84 minutes when a Lee Rick free kick went straight in.

Stamford won the game in the 90th when Jason Fields cross was headed back by Robbins to Shariff who from 5 yards smashed the ball home.

Hedge Enders plan celebrations

A group of Daniels’ fans who stand at the Hedge End have got together and will be sponsoring the match against Marine on March 29.
They are looking to get as many past and present Hedge Enders to the game as possible. As well as that, they will be taking over Art's Bar for an evening of musical entertainment - with Dale Farrow's (Clipper) band The Shambollix coming down from Yorkshire to play a set of punk and new wave covers from arguably the club's most successful period (1976 to 1982).

Planning to come from out of town? It might be a good time to compare loans online and sort out your travel or weekend costs in advance.

Daniels' fan and event organiser Tim Bluff revealed: "Myself and a couple of pals will also be spinning a complementary mixed bag of tunes taking us all the way up to the present day (think Oasis, Kasabian, The Libertines, James, Kings of Leon, Blur etc, possibly the odd Two Tone track; and maybe even some Saxon if Andy Hunt sticks around!). So a cracking band and a couple of half decent djs, and best of all - it's free to get in."

He continued: "Obviously, the club will have one or two official events lined up to celebrate the end of our time at Wothorpe Road but a few us have got our heads together and agreed to sponsor the game and arrange the entertainment.

“There will be more details to follow in due course. So spread the word and get the message out there.”

Lincolnshire Senior Trophy Semi-Final

The semi-final of the Lincs Senior Trophy will be played at Grantham on Tuesday 11th February

The other semi-final, Brigg Town v Bottesford Town, will be played on the same evening.

Nwadike signs on

Stamford AFC have signed experienced midfielder Emeka Nwadike and he should be available for Saturday's home fixture against Matlock Town FC.

Manager David Staff believes the midfielders presence and experience is something that is needed in the Daniels side.

'As a management team, myself and Rob felt that, as a squad  we have an abundance of young, energetic, dynamic players. Do we have enough experience and know-how? Possibly not. We have a great dressing room at present and I want develop that into a winning dressing room. 'Macca's' experience and drive will offer us something different and compliment the abilities of others in the midfield area. He is clearly aware he will have to earn his place into the team but his presence is needed in what can be a relatively quiet, inexperienced squad, especially with Jon Challinor's recent departure. We are trying to continually improve the squad and now have more depth with various midfield options, who can also cover different positions'.

Jon Challinor

Stamford midfielder Jon Challinor has signed on dual registration with high flying conference side FC Halifax.

Manager David Staff is pleased for Jon but knows he will be missed.

'I have a great relationship with Chal and he actually has found this a hard decision and wouldn't leave for another non league step 2/3 club, but Halifax are in a great position and it is a good opportunity for him at this stage of his career'.

'I had an agreement all along that I would support him if this situation came up. If for what ever reason it doesn't work out, we keep his forms and would welcome someone of his ability and attitude back, no problem. We wish all the best and thank for his contribution to our season thus far'.

Jon goes straight into their squad for tonight fixture with Salisbury.

New ground progresses

With earthworks and foundations progressing well at Stamford's new Borderville ground on Ryhall Road, the first significant step is emerging as contractors R G Carter Building Ltd erect the metal framework for offices and changing rooms (seen here).

New Ground - December 10th 2013

Site manager Shaun Allerton revealed this week that the development is all going to plan and that they would start work on the sports hall framework next week. He commented: "The weather has been ok, apart from that gale which stopped work with the cranes, so we are making good progress."

Stamford hope to move to Borderville early next autumn.

Daniels New Stadium and Football Development Centre

With the University of Leicester Archaeological Services now off site, builders R G Carter have been  busily completing bulk earthworks at Borderville. This will enable them, through early December, to complete the foundations and begin introducing  structural steelwork, metal decking and drainage to the first team pitch - all hopefully completed by Christmas.

Then brickwork, roof cladding, external works and other drainage will be the major tasks for January.

The site's 15-man team have been flat out since the archaeologists declared that work could go ahead. They had found an ancient stone kiln and part of a human jaw bone, possibly from the Roman era, but nothing which would stop the development. Phew!

Commented site manager Shaun Allerton: "I'm happy with the progress we are making. We are where we want to be at the moment and the weather has been kind to us. We are hoping to avoid lengthy wet or cold spells."

Seen in our picture, with Borderville plans, are site executives, manager Shaun Allerton (right) and foreman Martyn Hardy.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Stamford Branch Member Shaun Arthur is delighted with the response to the British Legion poppy appeal that commenced over the course of last weekend.

Shaun attended the Hednesford FA Cup game as a official Club Match-day volunteer whilst raising money for The RBL.

Sean commented to www.stamfordafc.co.uk "I was delighted with the response from both Daniels and Hednesford supporters. The money raised has given the this year's appeal a wonderful start, working towards Remembrance Sunday on November 10th".
